What People are saying
I have a deeper appreciation for clouds, the changing skyscape and allowing myself to slow down and be in the present moment wherever I am. Even if I pull over to the side of the road to enjoy the sky or listen to the birdsong.
ST, Napa, California
Love the way the mind goes quiet as the wonder of watching takes over. Gets you outside in nature which I believe is essential. The experience each time I find relaxes me and at the same time enlivens my heart. Lots of joy present.
Martha, Ojai, California
Cloudwatching is now one of my automatic things I do to take care of myself. When I'm in the middle of whatever I'm doing, I look up and my body relaxes. It's a quick reset. Or take a few minutes to enjoy an easy meditation. You'll love how easy this practice is.
Kay S., Middleville, Michigan
The benefit I received was the awareness of the positive impact I experienced from just 5 minutes of intentionally slowing down. Cloudwatching helped bring me back into balance on a number of occasions. It also helped me feel more connected to the divine.
KCM, Southern California
I realized that taking time to be still and observe the sky is a great way to reconnect with my Self and God. I gained perspective and felt gratitude for the smallest of things. I am impressed with how simple the process is and how profoundly it affected me
Judy L, Hermosa Beach, California
Creating this practice during such a stressful time (pandemic, separation from family and friends, schooling transitions, racial injustice, stressful election, wildfires and poor air quality, etc.) was healing and soothing for me.
JL, San Francisco, California
Creating a practice to take time outs, I didn't know these short breaks would be so restorative mostly for my mind and soul. I became more calm and happy.
JG, Nevada
It is really important to have a habit like cloud watching to live in peace.
HT, Palo Alto, California
Having time to oneself to just sit there and think about nothing is quite fun and calms your brain down.
College Student
I noticed that with cloudwatching, I felt a lot more energetic throughout my day. I was able to carry on through my day and not feel completely burned out at the end of the day when I cloudwatched.
College Student
Cloudwatching has helped clear up my mind or “brain fog.” My mind has been able to take a break from everything every day, even if it’s only for a few minutes. I have noticed that I have been in a better mood as I feel peaceful inside.
College Student
The sky is so magical and I am pleased to have this opportunity to stop each and every day to recline and watch our great universe. I was more present, calm, and rested. Cloudwatching seems to be an excellent tool to unwind and possibly even to possibly get inner guidance. Loving this!
CH, Naples, Florida
I really enjoyed being still for a bit and just be in the moment. Lovely watching the clouds go by. I am so used to looking at nearby objects, such as my phone, that I don't look far into the distance enough. It feels good. My mind would wander to things and the clouds would be bring me back to the present moment. Lovely feeling the sun on my body.

Frequently asked questions

Can I do this method at night?
Arrow down

Absolutely. The night sky can be just as calming and awe-inspiring as the daytime sky. You might even enjoy noticing how your experience shifts between sunlight and starlight.

Why do I need to lie down or recline to Cloudwatch?
Arrow down

Lying down helps your body relax and allows you to take in the widest, most expansive view of the sky, which supports the calming effects of panoramic vision.

Do I need clouds to do this method?
Arrow down

No. While drifting clouds inspired the name, Cloudwatching is about connecting with the whole sky, not just the clouds. Whether it’s bright blue, softly overcast, golden at dusk, or dark and starry, every sky offers its own beauty and sense of spaciousness.

Do I need to be experienced to do Cloudwatching?
Arrow down

Not at all. One of the beautiful things about Cloudwatching is how simple and welcoming it is. You don’t need any background in mindfulness, yoga, or meditation. Just lie down somewhere comfortable, gaze at the sky, and let the experience unfold. Each time you Cloudwatch, it may become easier to return to that sense of calm, and you may even begin to crave it.

Is Cloudwatching a meditation practice?
Arrow down

Yes, although it’s a different kind of meditation. Cloudwatching is an open-eye practice, where you gaze at the sky instead of closing your eyes, like in traditional meditation. There’s nothing to force or fix. As your body relaxes and your vision opens, your mind often quiets naturally. The sky invites presence, softens your edges, and helps you come home to yourself.

What is the Cloudwatching® Method?
Arrow down

The Cloudwatching Method is an open-eye sky meditation that combines five key elements: resting pose, panoramic vision, natural light, awe, and comfort and safety. Together, they help calm your nervous system and lift your mood. Unlike traditional meditation, there’s no need to quiet your thoughts or close your eyes. The method does the work for you: simply step outside, lie down comfortably, and safely gaze at the vast, majestic sky. The sky becomes your meditation space, helping you reconnect with yourself and restore balance to your body, mind, and spirit.
